The copper color comes from sunlight passing through the Earth's atmosphere and breaking up into a rainbow of color.  The red colors are scattered more towards the center of the Earth's shadow.  So, as the Moon moves through the shadow (in this case along the edge of the Earth's shadow) the red color becomes more intense.  The cloudiness adds some extra texture to the scene.
